123 Reg is one of the most recognisable domain providers in the UK, and its domain service is easy to understand: a wide choice of extensions, straightforward DNS controls, included privacy on eligible domains and UK-based support. The part I would watch closely is long-term price, because the current renewal and transfer costs on several mainstream extensions are much less competitive than the initial registration price.

Review verdict
I think 123 Reg makes most sense for a UK customer who values familiarity, easy domain management and accessible UK support. It becomes harder to recommend when low renewal pricing is the priority.

123 Reg covers the everyday registrar jobs well. The domain dashboard includes DNS and nameserver controls, transfers are clearly documented, privacy is included on eligible domains, and UK customers can reach support by phone or live chat. I also think the wider hosting, email and Website Builder products can be useful if the domain is being bought for a new business site. The problem is price: once I look beyond the introductory offer, the current `.com`, `.org` and `.net` renewal costs are difficult to justify against cheaper registrars.
UK businesses and beginners who want straightforward domain management, familiar UK support and the option to add website services later.
Price-sensitive portfolio owners or anyone choosing primarily on low renewal and transfer costs.
Its UK focus, long operating history and simple control-panel approach make it easy for ordinary website owners to understand.
The current renewal and transfer prices on several major extensions are considerably higher than lower-cost alternatives.
123 Reg domain prices
123 Reg appears on the current `.com`, `.org`, `.net` and `.co.uk` comparison sheets used for this review. It is not listed on the current `.ai` sheet, so I have not added an unverified `.ai` row.
| Extension | Registration | Renewal | Transfer in | Pricing note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .com comparison → | $10.97First year | $25.83Standard renewal | $24.48Transfer price | The registration price is reasonable, but both renewal and transfer are much higher. |
| .org comparison → | $9.62First year | $27.18Standard renewal | $23.13Transfer price | The gap between first-year registration and standard renewal is particularly large. |
| .net comparison → | $23.13First year | $27.18Standard renewal | $23.13Transfer price | All three current `.net` prices are relatively high. |
| .co.uk comparison → | $17.55First year | $17.55Standard renewal | $0.00Free transfer | The incoming `.co.uk` transfer is free; the current registration and renewal price is the same. |
The current `.com`, `.org` and `.net` renewal prices are where 123 Reg loses the most ground against lower-cost registrars.
123 Reg advertises free `.uk` and `.co.uk` transfers, and the current `.co.uk` comparison row reflects that.
Promotional registration prices can look attractive, so I would compare at least the registration plus first renewal rather than judging the deal on year one alone.

Domain features
The feature set is aimed at ordinary website owners rather than domain traders. DNS, nameservers, transfers, privacy and protection are all presented in a familiar control-panel workflow, with hosting and Website Builder available as secondary services if the domain is for a new site.
123 Reg advertises more than 400 domain extensions, covering mainstream global TLDs and a broad selection of alternatives.
Domain Privacy is included with eligible domains, while paid Domain Protection plans add stronger ownership and recovery controls.
The Control Panel supports A, CNAME, TXT, SPF and MX records as well as nameserver changes and standard domain forwarding.
`.uk` and `.co.uk` transfers into 123 Reg are free and use the familiar Nominet IPS tag `123-REG`.
Domain folders and profiles help organise multiple names and apply common settings without treating every domain as a separate account.
Telephone support runs from 8am to 10pm on weekdays, with Live Chat available from 9am to 7pm every day.
One point worth separating is basic privacy from the paid security packages. 123 Reg says Domain Privacy is included on eligible domains, which is a meaningful inclusion.
Full and Ultimate Domain Protection go further with stronger ownership controls and, on the Ultimate tier, an extended holding period. Those upgrades can be useful, but I would not treat them as essential for every domain.
123 Reg also sells hosting, email and Website Builder products, and a domain can be connected directly to those services. That is convenient for a small business that wants one provider.
For this review, though, I would judge 123 Reg on its domain pricing and management first. The wider website products do not compensate for expensive renewals if all I need is a registrar.

123 Reg is easy to understand and particularly familiar for UK customers. If renewal price matters more than having a UK-focused provider, the higher-ranked registrars below offer stronger overall value in our current scoring.
